THE Committee for Geelong (CfG) will mark International Women’s Day this year with a special breakfast event featuring Australian tennis player and commentator Jelena Dokic.<\/p>\n

The keynote speaker at next month’s event, Dokic has had a storied and well-documented life and tennis career both on and off the court.<\/p>\n

Her stellar playing career included defeating then-world no. 1 Martina Hingis at the age of 16 and being ranked world no. 4 in 2002, but her rapid ascent through the world ranking was marred by her off-court struggles.<\/p>\n

In 2017, Dokic penned the best-selling autobiography Unbreakable, which details the struggles of being a refugee, dealing with poverty, racism, bullying, and discrimination, as well as the physical and emotional abuse she suffered for more than 20 years at the hands of her father.<\/p>\n

Retiring from professional tennis in 2015, she is now one of the leading voices for Nine Network’s coverage of the Australian Open, and a motivational speaker on topics including resilience, mental health and empowerment.<\/p>\n

The CfG annual International Women’s Day Breakfast will be held at the Presidents’ Room, GMHBA Stadium, Geelong on March 8 from 7-9am.<\/p>\n
