THE community has only one week left to share their insights and ideas on the City of Greater Geelong’s Market Square quarter masterplan.<\/p>\n

The process has already attracted 218 responses through an online survey and around 50 people have attended in-person feedback sessions.<\/p>\n

These efforts aim to collect community input on the future development of the area bordered by Malop, Yarra, Ryrie, and Moorabool Streets.<\/p>\n

Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said the council was listening.<\/p>\n

“Community members called for more dining opportunities, a fresh food market or a supermarket, more public art, diverse shopping opportunities and the creation of an external<\/p>\n

shopping experience or high street,” Cr Sullivan said.<\/p>\n

“We want to hear if the draft Market Square quarter masterplan hits the mark or if there are further improvements that can be made.”<\/p>\n

The draft masterplan, drawn up by MGS Architects, proposes transforming the block into a community hub.<\/p>\n

It envisions Little Malop Central as a vibrant, accessible, and safe gathering place, featuring an ‘eat-street’ with outdoor dining, live music, events, and an outdoor market.<\/p>\n

The proposal also includes<\/p>\n

two new plazas, designed in collaboration with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, enhanced pedestrian connectivity, and a mix of uses such as a hotel, offices, and residential spaces.<\/p>\n

Cr Peter Murrihy said a collaborative approach would be needed to bring the project to life.<\/p>\n

“The land is owned by private landholders and government, meaning strong partnerships between landowners, developers, local and state government, Wadawurrung Traditional Owners and the community will be needed for the final plan to become a reality.”<\/p>\n
