CITY of Greater Geelong will be holding its February meeting at the brand-new Northern Aquatic and Community Hub tomorrow (February 27).<\/p>\n
Community will be able to receive updates from Windermere councillors on local projects and watch a council meeting in action.<\/p>\n
Attendees can ask a question of Council and are encouraged to submit their questions before midday today (February 26).<\/p>\n
The community-based meeting will also be an opportunity for locals to check out the large multi-purpose community performance hall which has replaced the ageing Centenary Hall.<\/p>\n
Deputy mayor and Windermere Ward councillor Anthony Aitken said council always enjoys meetings outside of City Hall.<\/p>\n
“This will be our first community meeting in the new Civic Auditorium at the Northern Aquatic and Community Hub, so it is a special occasion and I encourage as many members of the Geelong community to attend and experience this amazing new event space.<\/p>\n
“Councillor Sarah Hathway and I will present an informative snapshot of projects in Geelong’s northern suburbs before the reports section in the meeting, which I encourage residents to stick around for.”<\/p>\n
Ms Hathway said community-based meetings improved transparency in decision making.<\/p>\n
“These special meetings give us a better handle on certain local issues by chatting with the people who are affected,” Cr Hathway said.<\/p>\n
“This is just one of the way we are increasing accessibility and transparency of Council’s business.”<\/p>\n
The $65.6 million Northern Aquatic and Community Hub opened to the community on Monday February 19.<\/p>\n
A free community open day will be formally held on Sunday March 3.<\/p>\n
