MORE than 120,000 people came together and celebrated multiculturalism in Geelong at Pako Festa street party.<\/p>\n

Pakington Street in Geelong was transformed into a bright rainbow of colour on Saturday, with awe-inspiring costumes, bouncing rhythm and a sea of smiling people of all races, ages and genders turning out for the festivities.<\/p>\n

The event featured a range of dance and movement workshops, live entertainment, local food and beverage vendors who shone a light on the various cultures in Geelong and the famous street parade.<\/p>\n

Event organiser and Cultura chief executive officer Joy Leggo said it was “the biggest and best Pako Festa yet!”<\/p>\n

The Indonesian Association of Geelong was a winner of the street parade.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

“It was truly spectacular! To see a crowd of this size gather together in unity and harmony and to celebrate our differences in a peaceful way is nothing short of miraculous.<\/p>\n

“In its 42nd year, Pako Festa is truly a manifestation of the joy and diversity of Geelong; and 2024 was no different.<\/p>\n

“On every corner, hearts beat in time with the drums, while swirling performers, flamenco dancers, Scottish bagpipes and brass bands filled the air, painting the scene a vibrant palette of colour and sparkly glitter.<\/p>\n

“Everyone was there for the same reason, to connect, honour and respect each other’s culture and heritage. It was truly heartwarming to see.”<\/p>\n
