GEELONG Jazz Club is again running programs throughout this year to encourage young people to keep the music genre alive in the region.<\/p>\n
Jazz Jammers sessions will take place on March 17, June 16, September 15 and December 8 at the Geelong West Neighbourhood House.<\/p>\n
The initiative started in September last year to plenty of success, with more than 10 people joining the band to jam. Sessions will be catered to competent players of drums, trombone, saxophone, trumpet, clarinet, piano, guitar and bass.<\/p>\n
Committee member Felix Blatt said anticipation was high for the series to kick off in March.<\/p>\n
“The Jazz Club hopes that these jam sessions will entice younger, new players to play jazz, helping to continue the strong music culture in Geelong.<\/p>\n
“They also provide an environment where people who want to play jazz, and can already play an instrument, can meet, play and learn from established local musicians.<\/p>\n
“It also brings new musicians and families into the club, hence ensuring its future.”<\/p>\n
The March 17 session will run from 2-5pm.<\/p>\n
Attendees are advised to bring their own instrument.<\/p>\n
Those unable to lock in a spot in the March jam are encouraged to reapply for the June session.<\/p>\n
