BARWON Heads artist Sophia Legoe has reignited her passion for art as her children have grown.<\/p>\n

With a studio overlooking the Barwon River, Legoe is in her element exploring ornate glazes, building on a focus that began during her Bachelor, then Honours Degree in Fine Art from<\/p>\n

Melbourne University, VCA more than 20 years ago.<\/p>\n

With a dedicated community focus, Sophia has been a relaxed yet energetic member of the Barwon Heads Arts Council, including vice-president for four years and a key member driving the build and completion of the Arts Hub.<\/p>\n

A trip up north and snorkelling adventure led to her current body of work “inspired by the magical worlds that exist in the sea, manifesting in sculptural vessels that revel in glaze chemistry and its beautiful possibilities.”<\/p>\n

Local snorkelling off the Bluff Marine Park has continued her stimulus for the series, and ties in perfectly to the theme of “Habitat”, the focus of the coming Hive Gallery annual group ceramics exhibition.<\/p>\n

Joining Legoe will be Ann Ferguson, Bridget Foley, Karen Steenbergen and two 2023 Klytie Pate Ceramics Awards finalists; Melbourne-based Lene Kuhl Jakobsen and Jan Juc local Kirsty Manger.<\/p>\n

Legoe’s work is held in many private collections.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will have its official opening and an artist Q&A tomorrow (Saturday March 2) from 2-4pm.<\/p>\n

It will run at The Hive Gallery, 41 Smithton Grove, Ocean Grove from today (Friday, March 1) to March 31.<\/p>\n
