THE intersection of Marshalltown Road and Bailey Street in Grovedale has seen significant safety improvements, thanks to a $750,000 upgrade under the Australian Government’s BlackSpot program for 2023-2024.<\/p>\n
The project introduced new footpaths, a roundabout, tactile indicators, kerb and channel improvements, upgraded street lighting, and enhanced drainage systems.<\/p>\n
Federal Member for Corangamite, Libby Coker, emphasised the importance of infrastructure enhancements and safety measures.<\/p>\n
“By enhancing infrastructure and implementing safety measures we can prevent tragedies and protect our loved ones and that’s why I’m thrilled that this Federal-funded blackspot project has been delivered,” Ms Coker said.<\/p>\n
“The Albanese Government is committed to building safer roads in fast-growing suburbs like Grovedale and investing in these upgrades is an important part of ensuring children can walk to school and families can drive to work without constant fear of accidents.”<\/p>\n
“I’d like to congratulate all members of the Grovedale community who advocated for these much-needed safety upgrades.”<\/p>\n
Enhancements also included new footpath pram ramps, asphalt wombat crossings, asphalt overlays on all roundabout approaches, and updated signage and line-marking, complemented by Raised Reflective Pavement Markers.<\/p>\n
Aimed at reducing vehicle speeds to below 30km\/h around the intersection and prioritising pedestrian movement, the initiative was carried out to address a history of accidents at this location.<\/p>\n
Mayor Trent Sullivan underscored the critical need for safety.<\/p>\n
“This is a really busy intersection right near Grovedale Primary School, so it’s really important it’s as safe as possible,” he said.<\/p>\n
