SOME of the world’s fittest humans will race in Geelong this Sunday, March 24 as part of the 2024 Ironman 70.3 Geelong.<\/p>\n

Known for its long triathlons, Ironman Geelong’s multi-looped fast course will again provide hundreds of athletes with a challenge along Geelong’s Waterfront from Point Henry to Rippleside Park.<\/p>\n

“Hosting such an event involves extensive planning, and we express our gratitude to the City of Greater Geelong for their ongoing support, which contributes significantly to the success of the race,” race director Patrick Hawthorne said.<\/p>\n

“The race will kick off with a rolling swim start, allowing athletes to self-seed based on their estimated swim time. The ROKA Swim Course, set in Corio Bay, remains unchanged for 2024.<\/p>\n

“The FulGaz Bike Course, guiding athletes through Eastern Gardens and along the Bellarine Peninsula, also remains the same.<\/p>\n

“The Hoka Run offers one of the most scenic courses in Australia, running along Corio Bay and the Event Village.”<\/p>\n

Among the athletes competing this year includes last year’s champions Mike Phillips and Grace Thek, racing among a raft of top-tier Ironmen and Ironwomen.<\/p>\n

Steve McKenna, Nicholas Free, Mitch Kibby, and Calb Noble remain the athletes to watch in the Pro Male category, while Radka Kahlefeldt, Lotte Wilms, Ellie Salthouse, and Hannah Berry round out the top contenders in the Pro Female division.<\/p>\n

“IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong is a favourite among our athletes and it’s great that we’ll be welcoming them back to the region on 24 March and we can’t wait to see more than 1,600 athletes cross the finish line and achieve their goals on race day,” managing director of Oceania for The IRONMAN Group, Geoff Meyer, said.<\/p>\n

“The event will also provide a great opportunity for our leading Australian professional triathletes to race on home soil and I’m sure the competition will be fierce, we’re all looking forward to seeing them in action.”<\/p>\n

Sunday’s proceedings will begin at 7.32am sharp with the beginning of the Pro Male start. The female race will begin two minutes later at 7.34am.<\/p>\n

The event’s Physically Challenged\/Intellectual Disability Open Race Start will begin at 7.35am before age group races begin rolling starts from 7.42am.<\/p>\n
