I&#8217;m speechless.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_131577\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-131577\" style=\"width: 608px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-131577 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/04\/20240403001926437613-original-scaled.jpg?_t=1712120943\" alt=\"\" width=\"608\" height=\"405\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-131577\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Caitlin Simmers of the United States after winning the Final at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.(AAP Image\/Supplied by World Surf League, Aaron Hughes).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Simmers left it late before edging past France&#8217;s Johanne Defay 12.77-11.60 in the women&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old caught what turned out to be the decisive wave with only 15 seconds remaining.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was thinking on my last wave that this could be it,&#8221; said Simmers, who replaces Defay at the top of the world rankings heading into the next round at Margaret River.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d just got my other wave so my legs were hurting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was paddling as fast as I could and I was almost too late for it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In this sport you always have to believe in yourself.
