CREATIVE Geelong’s new initiative, May’d has officially opened at Centrepoint Arcade.<\/p>\n

The new retail space showcases and sells the artworks of members.<\/p>\n

Chair of Creative Geelong Jennifer Cromarty said May’d has been in the planning for at least the last six months and the product range will continue to grow.<\/p>\n

“It’s about showcasing this incredible work that we have and the diversity of talent,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s also just helping our members sell their work because how else can you make a living as an artist.”<\/p>\n

For members, they pay $10 a month and are able to display their art works in what Ms Cromarty describes as a gallery showroom.<\/p>\n

The idea for May’d was born following Creative Geelong’s markets where they were constantly asked to open a shop front.<\/p>\n

“It was really an extension of the market, so that our market stall holders and members have an opportunity to put in their best works.<\/p>\n

“We saw it as a natural pathway for our members, they said ‘we love the market, but my gosh wouldn’t it be good to have a shop.'”<\/p>\n

The new space allows Creative Geelong members to display and sell their artworks.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Creative Geelong is a not-for-profit supporting the creative sector and don’t take any commission from the artwork sold.<\/p>\n

The group received funding from the City of Greater Geelong and Creative Victoria, with State Member for Geelong, Christine Couzens there to officially open the store.<\/p>\n

Ms Couzens said watching the process of Creative Geelong come together over the years has been incredible. “I really want it to grow, to have the place packed out and for people to just be able to wander through whenever they choose.<\/p>\n

“Art and creatives areas tend to be more isolated, so this is a great opportunity to bring it out so people can actually see it and enjoy it.”<\/p>\n

Ms Couzens said everybody needs to continue supporting these places and they make a huge difference to people’s health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n

“It’s not about the actual place, it’s about what they’re doing and the opportunities they’re giving to people, whether they be artists or consumers, or people that just want to check out what other people are doing.”<\/p>\n

The May’d Shop will be open in Geelong’s Centrepoint Arcade at 132 Little Malop Street, Thursday’s to Saturday’s from 11am until 3pm.<\/p>\n
