Surprise the mums and mother figures in your life this Mother’s Day with some racing fun.<\/p>\n

On May 12 the Western District Car Club (WDCC) and Motorsport Australia are coming together to host a come and try day for beginners.<\/p>\n

The program is aimed at women who have an interest in motorsport but are unsure on where to start.<\/p>\n

Basic car preparation and driving skills are taught in a safe and controlled environment with no need for any experience.<\/p>\n

Britt Draper has been racing for more than two years as a navigator and recently did her first race as a driver.<\/p>\n

“It can be very daunting and hard to navigate the motorsport world and we really want to make it a bit easier and more approachable for women,” she said.<\/p>\n

“There’s a massive space for women in the sport, drivers are always looking for navigators, if that’s an interest to anyone I’d love to assist and guide them on that journey.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The WDCC is one of the biggest car clubs in the region and was approached by Motorsport Australia to see if they would be interested in running the program.<\/p>\n

“We just see a hole in the sport for women and we wanted to give them an opening to learn a bit more and see if they’re interested in joining,” Britt said.<\/p>\n

Participants will learn basic vehicle maintenance and safety checks with the day being run by the ladies of the club.<\/p>\n

There will be two sessions that run across the day, in the morning and afternoon.<\/p>\n

Sessions are $30 and include lunch, guest speakers and mentors.<\/p>\n

The come and try day will take place at the Avalon Motorsport Complex with friends and family welcome to come along and watch.<\/p>\n

Participants are required to bring their own car with everyday cars being suitable for the event.<\/p>\n
