THE City of Greater Geelong have expanded the cars available in their L2P program, adding an electric vehicle to their fleet.<\/p>\n

Funded by The Transport Accident Commission, the program allows those aged between 16 and 21 who have limited access to a vehicle or supervising driver to gain experience on the roads.<\/p>\n

The new MG4 will be based in Grovedale and is the ninth car to be added, also making it the first electric vehicle in the program statewide.<\/p>\n

City of Greater Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said without access to a car or supervising driver 120 hours of driving isn’t possible.<\/p>\n

“A driver’s license equals freedom and independence for a young person, so the L2P program is truly life changing.”<\/p>\n

“The bonus behind driving practice is that many of the learners and our amazing volunteer mentors develop great friendships that carry on well into the future.”<\/p>\n

The L2P program has added an electric vehicle to their program.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The additional vehicle was sponsored by the Give Where You Live Foundation, with support from Rex Gorell, Austeng, Godins and J B Scott Pty Ltd.<\/p>\n

L2P volunteer Andrew Cleary proposed the idea of an electric car and brought together the businesses who sponsor the vehicle to make it happen.<\/p>\n

As part of the expansion, an existing vehicle will be moved to Ocean Grove, where there is a high demand for the service.<\/p>\n

In 2023, 186 leaner drivers participated in the program with 65 learners gaining their licence.<\/p>\n
