LOCAL author and infographic designer Esther Gonstalla will be hosting Geelong’s only event this year as part of Melbourne Design Week, inviting residents to enjoy the free event and understand the world of infographics.<\/p>\n

Based out of Anglesea, Ms Gonstalla will host her event “Infographic in Science Communication” on Monday, May 27 at Waurn Ponds Library from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.<\/p>\n

The multi-published book author will delve into her field of expertise, talking about infographics and how they help communicate scientific findings, particularly in the complex field of climate science.<\/p>\n

Ms Gonstalla will also touch on examples of her own work from published books such as The Ocean Book \u2013 How Endangered Are Our Seas?, focusing on climate change communication.<\/p>\n

“I am extremely grateful for Melbourne Design Week to accept my application to be part of their line-up of 300 events,” Ms Gonstalla said.<\/p>\n

“Melbourne Design Week’s slogan this year is ‘Design the world you want’ which goes perfectly with my work, as I’m always focusing on solutions for a better future.<\/p>\n

“We’ll touch of a few themes during the session, such as how the oceans react to climate change, how infographics can easily make this complex topic accessible, and I’ll engage people through infographics rather than long-winded texts and numbers.”<\/p>\n

Ms Gonstalla will also have a chance to talk about her newly published book Atlas of a Threatened Planet, which will be available later this year.<\/p>\n

The session is the only one running in Geelong for 2024. Meanwhile another session is being held at the Australian National Surfing museum in Torquay today (Friday, May 24) and tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Ms Gonstalla said she was extremely pleased Melbourne Design Week continued to run events in regional areas.<\/p>\n

“It’s really important events like this are held, because out this way we don’t get as many cultural events and activities compared to Melbourne.<\/p>\n

“It’s also a great opportunity for designers like myself to have the chance to invite larger audiences in a regional setting to hear the insights we have on offer.”<\/p>\n
