GEELONG Amateur will seek to complete a perfect first half of the 2024 season by defeating Bellarine Netball League surprise packet Newcomb this weekend.<\/p>\n
Ammos A Grade coach Mel Savage said she had heard great things about the Power’s season to this point, led by league best and fairest runner-up Jessica Duke and coach Lisa Robinson, meaning her side won’t be resting on their laurels at Grinter Reserve tomorrow (Saturday, June 1).<\/p>\n
Geelong Amateur has gone undefeated through eight rounds, while Newcomb, in the top four with six wins and two losses, could climb to as high as second on the ladder if it wins.<\/p>\n
“From what I’ve heard they’ve got a similar line-up to last year, but look, we don’t really know until we play them,” Savage said.<\/p>\n
“You can look at the results, which have been really even across a lot of games, which makes it harder to prepare for sides.<\/p>\n
“It’s hard to gauge but we’re very focused on what we do. We try not to worry on what everyone else is doing.”<\/p>\n
With a few changes to the side’s weekly line-up since last season, Savage has welcomed Bell Park’s Kaitlin Sheringham to the fold, providing a new dynamic with the side’s attacking duo in Ruby Watson and Darcy McFarlane.<\/p>\n
Sharon Ford has also become a regular feature in the A Grade squad with Meg Patterson providing the third goaler for the side.<\/p>\n
“She’s [Kaitlyn] been a great addition to the squad, and she’s known a number of the girls from her time at the Geelong Cougars,” Savage said.<\/p>\n
“It’s been quite a smooth transition for her, everything Kaitlyn does is focused and determined, and she’s given us a different option in attack.<\/p>\n
“She’s incredibly quick and smart and combines beautifully with Ruby and Darcy in goal.”<\/p>\n
Ash Creasey has also stepped away from the game temporarily to focus on her family, while Grace Pullen (back) is without a timeline to return to action.<\/p>\n
Midcourter Madeline Mickovski (shoulder) was already ruled out at the start of the year after undergoing surgery.<\/p>\n
Geelong Amateur and Newcomb play from 1.45pm on the main court at Grinter Reserve and will begin the latter half of the season next weekend against Queenscliff at home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
