{"id":99712,"date":"2024-06-27T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-26T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=99712"},"modified":"2024-06-27T11:53:41","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T01:53:41","slug":"world-renowned-whodunnit-headed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/living\/world-renowned-whodunnit-headed\/","title":{"rendered":"World-renowned whodunnit headed for Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The world&#8217;s longest running play is set to open in Geelong next month.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Mousetrap<\/em>, a genre-defining murder mystery story written by best-selling novelist Agatha Christie, has been delighting audiences across the globe for more than 70 years.<\/p>\n<p>The whodunnit follows a group of seven strangers who find themselves snowed in at a remote countryside boarding house with a murderer in their midst.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/MirandaDaughtry-Chri_79396-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Miranda Daughtry (left) as the mysteriously aloof Miss Casewell, with Chris Parker, retired British military officer Major Metcalf.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As their pasts are revealed one by one, the characters scramble to discover who amongst them is the murderer, fearing they might be the next victim.<\/p>\n<p>Millions of viewers, spanning almost 30,000 performances, have watched <em>The Mousetrap<\/em> and tried to solve the world-famous mystery for themselves before becoming custodians of a long-running secret: the play&#8217;s twist ending.<\/p>\n<p>The show, produced by John Frost for Crossroads Live and Shake &amp; Stir Theatre Co., will run from July 4-7 at the Geelong Arts Centre on The Play House stage.<\/p>\n<p>The production features an all-star cast, including Helpmann Award winner Alex Rathgeber (<em>Anything Goes, The Phantom of the Opera<\/em>) as Giles Ralston, the husband of the new owner of the Monkswell Manor boarding house, and one of Australia&#8217;s most renowned stars of the stage and screen, Geraldine Turner (<em>Wicked, Present Laughter<\/em>), as the unpleasant retired magistrate Mrs Boyle.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/AlexanderWolfe-Miran_79392-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Direct from the latest West End production of The Mousetrap comes Alexander Wolfe (front) in the role of Christopher Wren, a young architect with a flamboyant and often inappropriate sense of humour.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The legendary Gerry Connolly (<em>Cyrano de Bergerac, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui<\/em>) will grace the stage as Mr Paravicini, an unexpected visitor to the manor, while Alexander Wolfe \u2013 direct from the West End production of <em>The Mousetrap<\/em> \u2013 is set to reprise the role of young architect Christopher Wren.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our goal is to program exceptional arts experiences for all audiences, and Agatha Christie&#8217;s The Mousetrap is a perfect example,&#8221; Geelong Arts Centre head of programming Penny McCabe said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Featuring an incredible cast directed by Australian theatre great Robyn Nevin, we are thrilled to bring this classic world-renowned theatre piece to Geelong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To purchase tickets, head to <a href=\"https:\/\/geelongartscentre.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">geelongartscentre.org.au<\/a> or phone the Box Office on 1300 251 200 between 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The world&#8217;s longest running play is set to open in Geelong next month.
