{"id":99737,"date":"2024-06-27T08:59:33","date_gmt":"2024-06-26T22:59:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/cats-honour-new-hall-of-fame-inductees\/"},"modified":"2024-06-27T13:46:01","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T03:46:01","slug":"cats-honour-new-hall-of-fame-inductees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/cats-honour-new-hall-of-fame-inductees\/","title":{"rendered":"Cats honour new Hall of Fame inductees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong Cats honoured a new group of top contributors both on and off the field at its Hall of Fame Dinner on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The prestigious event at GMHBA Stadium saw hundreds of Cats players, officials, coaches and members come together to celebrate the club&#8217;s past and present history.<\/p>\n<p>Headlining the celebrations was the elevation of Cameron Ling to Legend status and the induction of Travis Varcoe, Harry Taylor and premiership coach Chris Scott into the Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_138708\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-138708\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-138708 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/DSC07348.jpg?_t=1719442692\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-138708\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Host Anthony Hudson (second from left) sitting with new Hall of Famers Chris Scott (far left), Harry Taylor and Travis Varcoe.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ling becomes only the 28th player in the club&#8217;s history to receive its highest honour, joining luminaries including Corey Enright, Frank Costa, Charles Brownlow, Matthew Scarlett and Gary Ablett Snr.<\/p>\n<p>Cats AFLW stalwarts Kate Darby and Renee Garing became the club&#8217;s first women&#8217;s players to receive life membership.<\/p>\n<p>The pair both played in the Cats historical Round 1 AFLW match against Collingwood in 2019 and went on to become pioneers of elite level women&#8217;s football in Geelong across multiple seasons.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_138707\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-138707\" style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-138707 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/DSC07952.jpg?_t=1719442680\" alt=\"\" width=\"602\" height=\"401\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-138707\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gryan Miers, Jake Kolodjashnij and Tom Atkins were amongst the eleven players to get life membership.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A further 11 individuals were awarded life membership for their incredible service to Geelong on and off the field.<\/p>\n<p>The Cats also presented Colin Carter with the esteemed RJ Hickey Award, recognising his outstanding service to Australian football.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_138710\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-138710\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-138710 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/06\/DSC07179.jpg?_t=1719442698\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-138710\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Zach Tuohy, Patrick Dangerfield and Tom Stewart.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Carter&#8217;s service to the game dates to 1985 when he was a consultant to the then-VFL Commission, before serving as Cats president from 2010 to 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong Cats honoured a new group of top contributors both on and off the field at its Hall of Fame Dinner on the weekend.
