Delacombe Town Centre celebrates with virtual birthday
Locally owned shopping hub, Delacombe Town Centre, celebrates its third birthday this month, but their party is sign of the times.
KNOWN for their large community events, this year Delacombe Town Centre have taken their birthday celebrations digital with daily giveaways from each of their tenants via their Facebook page.
They’re also running a colouring competition, aimed at entertaining kids during stage three restrictions and remote learning.
Centre Manager, Garrath Holdstock, said they considered their approach to their annual birthday celebrations closely this year.
“A number of our stores have been doing it tough, both with the decrease in visitors to their businesses as people stay home, as well as some having to now close for a second time,” he said.
“Our digital birthday celebration is a way of recognising these hard working business owners and their staff and also showcasing how they’ve adjusted and the products and services they are still able to offer to our loyal and valued customers over this time.
“Past birthday celebrations and community events have seen us welcome Frozen characters, Lightning McQueen, roving Transformers, Bluey, buskers, face-painters and an outdoor cinema to the centre, so we also didn’t want to let the year pass without doing something for our community.
“Sending our event online was the safe and appropriate option for our staff and customers alike, and still allows us to provide a bit of fun.
Showbiz Cinemas is one of the businesses within Delacombe Town Centre affected by the latest closures and director, Chris Jones, highlighted the show must go on, with his business one of the many where customers can win a voucher during the birthday celebrations.
“The Showbiz Cinemas team is set to re-open again when restrictions are eased and are thrilled to welcome back audiences,” Mr Joes said.
“Until then, movie fans can still order freshly-made popcorn and choc-tops delivered to their door by ordering from our website each Friday and Saturday night.
Kaisercraft is another store participating in DTC’s big birthday giveaway and have this year seen many of their customers stocking up on crafting, scrap-booking and remote learning activities.
“We’ve been excited to share our products with our community to help keep them entertained at times when they’re isolated from friends and family,” said manager Melissa Gannon.
“A lot of our products are great for practising mindfulness so our Kaiser Sparkle, and Paint by Numbers ranges, which are actually both 30 per cent off this week, have both been really popular.”
Delacombe Town Centre’s continues to welcome community members, where face coverings, increased hygiene and physical distancing measures are all now standard. The bulk of their stores remain open, and centre’s food traders are providing takeaway and delivery options.
