Circus meets musical theatre in this dazzling new stage spectacular premiering at the Alex Theatre this October.
FROM gravity-defying acrobatics to show-stopping vocals, a bold new stage spectacular is set to sweep Melbourne audiences off their feet when Oz: The Cirque Experience makes its world premiere at the Alex Theatre in St Kilda on October 4.
Blending world-class circus artistry with the magic of musical theatre, this two-hour production reimagines the classic story of The Wizard of Oz with breathtaking stunts, killer songs and a modern twist that promises to captivate audiences of all ages.
Leading the show is musical theatre performer Elena Atanasovski, best known for Footloose: The Musical, as Dorothy. She’ll be joined by international artist Dan Price, whose credits include Cirque Du Soleil and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, as the Tinman, and Bede Nash from Circus Oz as the Scarecrow. Multi-skilled performer Jonathan Nash-Daly, who recently hosted Brisbane’s Pink Flamingo cabaret club, takes on the role of the enigmatic Wizard.
The cast also features Luke Blaze as The Illusionist, Jordan Twigg (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) as the Wicked Witch, and Hannah Gardiner (Priscilla: The Musical) as Glinda the Good Witch, with Conor Putland, Zoe Rose and Jessica Cannizzaro rounding out the ensemble.
From dazzling design and high-flying tricks to jaw-dropping special effects, Oz: The Cirque Experience is a kaleidoscope of performance and play. VIP packages, including themed cocktails and whimsical high teas, add an extra touch of sparkle to what’s being billed as one of Melbourne’s most exciting new theatrical events.
“It’s Oz, but not as you know it,” a spokesperson said. “Expect heart, humour and jaw-dropping stunts that will leave audiences spellbound.”
With some performances already selling out, Melburnians are urged to book quickly via oztheexperience.com. The show runs from October 4 to November 1, with both matinee and evening sessions.
Whether you’re chasing heart, brains, courage or just a damn good time, this Oz is calling.
