Parent Pathways Changing Lives in Ballarat and Barwon
DID you know that lives are being quietly and powerfully transformed across our community?
At the heart of this change is Parent Pathways, a project designed to empower parents and create lasting positive impacts.
Since launching in November 2024, Parent Pathways has supported over 500 local parents with young children in the Ballarat and Barwon regions to reconnect with community services, build new skills, and take steps toward a better future.
Delivered across eight local sites in Ballarat and 10 sites in Barwon, the program is driven by a passionate team of Parent Mentors who bring backgrounds in counselling, coaching and community development.
More than just a support service, Parent Pathways is a life-changing opportunity for those juggling the demands of parenting and the desire for a better life. Participant satisfaction in Ballarat and Geelong is currently 81.4 per cent, which shows that the parents involved are loving their experience.

One inspiring local story is that of New, a refugee from Burma who arrived in Australia at 16. After raising three children, two with special needs, New joined the program to regain her confidence and pursue work that aligned with her values.
With Parent Pathways’ support, she enrolled in short courses through the Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre, connected with the Reconnect Program, and secured part-time employment with Healio Care, a family-friendly NDIS provider. She also recently took on a second role as a Playgroup Leader.
“I love the job and always look forward to each session,” New said.
“I’ve really appreciated the opportunities, relationships and support given. I am impatient to succeed in a purposeful role.”
New’s story is just one of many showing how Parent Pathways empowers parents to rediscover their strengths, connect with community supports, and build financial security – all when the time is right for them. The program isn’t about rushing people into work but walking alongside them on their journey.
This kind of early intervention has lasting impact. By helping parents gain confidence, stability and skills, the program also supports better futures for their children, breaking the cycle of disadvantage at its roots.
“With strong community partnerships and a dedicated team, we are proud to continue this transformative work in the Ballarat and Barwon regions,” said Djerriwarrh’s Parent Pathways manager Gengiz Soyturk.
