Seb Big Band presents Swinging with Seb – A night of big band music through the ages…

UNDER the expert musical direction of Scott Mangos, this versatile 20-piece ensemble will deliver a program of popular jazz standards, early swing classics, and contemporary big-band arrangements.

Along with a dynamic 15-piece horn section and a lively rhythm section, the band will feature vocalist Anna Marshall, who graced the stage of Ballarat Lyric Theatre’s Sound Of Music as Mother Abbess in 2024.

Seb Big Band promises an uplifting evening of live music and community spirit for swing enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

“Swinging With Seb is a celebration of over four decades of Seb Big Band, with music spanningthe past century,” said musical director, Scott Mangos.

“We’ve brought together seasoned professionals and community musicians to create a night that honours jazz traditions while showcasing fresh arrangements.

“We can’t wait to share this experience with our local community.”

Seb Big Band was originally known as Sebaclear Stage Band. Formed by the late Ted Lewis in 1979, the band offered musical opportunities to the students of Mount Clear Secondary College and Sebastopol Technical College.

The band evolved through the 1980s and 1990s into a community group and over the years toured interstate and internationally, visiting Hawaii and New Zealand.

The current version of the band is a combination of semi-professional musicians, music teachers, and community musicians, with invitations extended to up and coming high school students to maintain the school and community roots the band is founded on.

Seb Big Band has been a cornerstone of Ballarat’s music scene for more than 45 years and is dedicated to keeping big-band jazz alive in regional Victoria.
