LOCAL creative Lyn Lambeth will be at Bannockburn Library next month sharing how to make art from recycled and eco-dyed materials.

Informed by her former career as a professional fisher, Lambeth’s work focuses on using materials at hand to create mixed media sculptures.

“I’ve always been a big fan of the sustainable use of materials, and I started working with old fishing gear,” she said.

“Now I’m down here I use slightly different materials, but I still like that idea of doing some creative with something that would otherwise be discarded.”

The workshop is suitable for anyone aged 12 years and over with materials provided by Lambeth.

“I’ll be taking a long a whole heap of things like bicycle parts and wire and eco-dyed lace,” she said.

“We’ll just have a few ideas of what people want to make and I can give them a few tips and different techniques to create something with recycled materials.”

Lambeth said she hopes her art practice encourages people to think differently about waste.

“People like the freedom to do something creative and having someone on hand to help them,” she said.

“I think bicycle parts are really interesting… you can look at those with fresh eyes and think that looks a little bit like an owls head.”

The session will take place on Saturday 2 November from 9.30am and more information can be found on the Geelong Regional Libraries website.
