LABOR candidate for Wendouree, Juliana Addison, announced a $3.7 million promise to transform Ballarat’s Alfredton Recreation Reserve last week.

“I went to the Premier and the Sports Minister and I said we’ve got to look after these people in Alfredton, they’re good people, raising good kids and we want to give them world class facilities,” she said.

The plan includes upgrading the outdated cricket nets, team rooms and outdoor undercover viewing areas, as well as building two new netball courts, female change rooms, precinct fencing and a new digital scoreboard and extra parking.

More than a thousand kids currently play netball, football, rugby and cricket across the sporting precinct.

Over the last three years 175 women and girls have become players on the football and netball teams.

With the senior netballers having to get changed in the public toilets the proposed female conveniences at the reserve are well overdue.

“With more women and girls kicking and shooting goals we’re making sure our female changing facilities are up to scratch right here in Alfredton,” Ms Addison said.
