ALFREDTON Rotary Club invites the community to Lift the Lid on Mental Illness this Monday, 30 August by enjoying a special morning tea at home.

Ballarat is invited to order some treats from the Club to take away, generating funds for the mental health work of Australian Rotary Health programs, under the Lift the Lid awareness campaign.

Packages of scones, jam and cream, finger sandwiches, cake, slices and biscuits can be picked up from the Canberra Hotel on Monday between 10.30am and 12pm, for a COVID-safe iso morning tea with meaning.

Alfredton Rotary’s Jill Oliver said all proceeds of each morning tea bundle will support Rotary’s mental health research initiatives assisting those impacted by illnesses including depression and anxiety.

“Our Alfredton members will make the food, it’s $20 per head, people can have a cuppa and something to eat, and it’s going to a good cause,” she said.

“Mental health is a big issue, especially in lockdown. Lift the Lid money goes to various programs each year, including adopting a research scientist, rural medical and nursing scholarships, and supporting Indigenous youth.

“Australian Rotary Health is Rotary’s own charitable organisation, will all proceeds going straight to research.”

Mrs Oliver encourages members of the community who may be aware of a family member or friend struggling through the isolation of COVID-19 lockdown to use the fundraiser as an opportunity to gift them a delicious care package.

“One of our members knows a Legacy widow who is finding it really tough in lockdown, so she is going to send some morning tea to her,” she said.

Orders close on Friday, 27 August at 5pm. The morning tea is $20 per person, with EFTPOS available at pickup. Call Mrs Oliver on 0407 333 410 to place an order.
