Are you bushfire ready?

The New Bushfire Reality is a public forum presented by Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions to explore the nature of Ballarat’s bushfire risk and community preparedness.

Ian Rossiter, BREAZE Secretary, said the forum will explore the changed nature of bushfire frequency and intensity attributed to climate change.

“It will provide information on how individuals and neighbourhoods can take action to better cope with such events,” he said.

Michael Boatman, CFA Community Safety Manager, will speak on his experiences with bushfire safety and recovery planning in the region, while Adrian Whitehead, Director of Council Action in the Climate Emergency, will discuss working with communities and local government in climate change adaptation and mitigation plans.

The City of Ballarat’s Municipal Emergency Management Plan will be also be presented to the attendees.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend one of three concurrent group discussion workshops.

The findings and questions raised by the discussion groups will be tabled at the end of the forum and accessible on the BREAZE website.

“We encourage a wide cross section of the Ballarat community to attend, not just to listen, but to get personally involved in bushfire preparedness for themselves, their loved ones, pets and properties,” Joe Natoli, BREAZE’s Event Coordinator said.

The forum is at Ballaarat Mechanics Institute 117 Sturt St, Ballarat on Sunday, 10 November from 1pm to 4pm.
