THE sale of some council-owned land at 132 Milton Street, the Bannockburn Recreation Precinct, will help Golden Plains Shire raise funds to put back into recreation infrastructure across the municipality.
The Shire resolved to proceed with the sale at its March council meeting.
This followed an earlier resolution at the December 2025 meeting, formally setting out the Shire’s intention to sell Lot RES 1 PS631696 (Part) in the northern part of the rec reserve, as permitted under section 114(2) of the Local Government Act 2020.
Community members were invited to provide feedback on the sale throughout January and February.
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said the consultation highlighted residents’ interest in the future of the space and their interest in boosting open space.
“Community feedback also reinforced the importance of ensuring Bannockburn keeps pace with growth and continues to receive the investment needed for high-quality recreation and community facilities,” said Cr Sharkey.
“Council acknowledges these views and recognises the pressures that growth places on existing services.
“These priorities are being actively addressed through long-term planning, advocacy, and a commitment to ensuring new development contributes to the delivery of future community infrastructure.
“Importantly, the proposed sale will help council generate significant funds that can be reinvested directly into recreation infrastructure in Bannockburn and across the municipality.
“This means the concerns raised through consultation, such as the need for more facilities, better open space, and improved community amenities, can be supported through tangible, long-term investment.”
