DESIGNS for a planned roundabout at a notorious intersection at Bannockburn have been released.

The upgrades would see a large roundabout installed at the intersection of Bannockburn-Shelford, Clyde, Kelly and Geelong roads, along with some realignment of the approaches and additional traffic islands.

The works are being carried out by Regional Roads Victoria and jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments to the tune of $6.5 million.

While there’s no official hard start date on the project yet, a RRV statement said that crews had already been in the area conducting preliminary scoping work and construction “will start in early 2021”.

Further up Clyde Road at the intersection of the Midland Highway, works on a second roundabout also have a soft start date.

That $3.2 million upgrade is funded by the Federal Government through the Roads of Strategic Importance program with RRV saying works “will start in mid-2021.”

Neither project has a completion date.

The roundabout at Bannockburn-Shelford, Clyde, Kelly and Geelong roads has long been a campaign issue with the Coalition pledging to upgrade the site during the 2018 state election campaign, and then again in 2019 at a Federal level.
