A DRAFT design for the upgrade of Bannockburn’s skatepark has been released before works begin in July.

Now Golden Plains Shire is encouraging residents, especially young people, to take a look and give feedback on the plans from this week, which include new quarter pipes, ramps, jumps and rails, and aim to address the community’s public safety and security concerns.

The Shire is holding a consultation session this evening, Thursday, 29 April on site at 3 Moore Street, Bannockburn. From 4pm to 6pm the plans will be accessible, and council officers and skatepark design and construction contractors Convic will be on site to take feedback.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Helena Kirby said the facelift, worth $450,000, has financial backing from the State and Federal governments.

“The project will feature a safe, accessible and modern design for our young skaters, scooters and bikers, while addressing public safety around the site,” she said.

The upgrades will also see concrete resurfacing, landscaping, a shade area, seating, drink taps, bike racks, lockers, safety signage, and electrical works.

“I encourage interested locals to get down to the skatepark this Thursday, 29 April to see the plans, and speak with our friendly staff about the project. If you can’t make it in person, the plans will be available on council’s website until Monday, 3 May,” Ms Kirby said.

At 4pm and 5pm throughout tonight’s consultation session, Skate Park Leagues will run two beginner scoot clinics on the existing skatepark.
