WHILE it might be a bit later in the year than normal, the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute annual book sale is set to return next week.

Coming just in time for Christmas, the event features thousands of books from many genres at a great price.

Ms McInerney and venue and events manager Sam McColl.

“There’s heaps and heaps and heaps of books, so many books!” said Sam McColl, venue and events manager at the BMI. “Books as cheap as a dollar and all priced accordingly to sell.

“The money from the book sale goes back into the BMI library so we can either purchase new books or upgrade systems and things like that.”

The books sold during the event come from a few different sources including via donations by members as well as from the BMI Library collection.

“We ask members of people from the community to donate books, go through their house if they are doing any spring cleaning, and bring them in for the sale,” Mr McColl said.

“Our librarian Rosemary and volunteers make sure the books are in good condition, and clean and tidy, and then price the books.”

The BMI Big Book Sale runs on Friday, 18 and Saturday, 19 December 10am to 4pm in The Minerva Space on the top shelf of the Institute.

“We’ve had so many books donated we just don’t have enough room down in the library,” Mr McColl said.
