The Inverleigh book bazaar will return in May.

THE Inverleigh Public Hall Committee is accepting donations of clean, quality pre-loved books towards its fundraising book bazaar in May.

“If you’re having a clean-out over the summer holidays we’re welcoming donations of novels, biographies and memoirs and children’s books only,” the committee’s president Bruce McDonald said.

“We’re raising the funds for the maintenance of the hall. We have to do some fairly urgent roof repairs on one section and that’s what we’re raising funds for currently.

“Over recent years we’ve managed to re-roof almost the entire building, and we’ve just got this one last section of roofing to do.”

The committee is making sure it is well organised ahead of the book bazaar that is set for 30 May in 2026, marking a return for the event which last took place in 2024 when it notched up $5100 in sales.

“Collection of donated books can be arranged, and in the past we’ve picked up books from all over the local area,” Mr McDonald said.

Located at 71 High Street, the Inverleigh Public Hall is a historic venue that has been a cornerstone of the community since its establishment in 1866.

“The hall is used by the whole community from playgroup to senior citizens,” Mr McDonald said.

“It accommodates community classes, wedding receptions, funeral wakes, trivia nights, music nights… the historical society is based there. We even have Scottish dancing competitions there.

“The hall has been there since 1866 and has been well supported by community ever since.”

Donated books need to be in a good, clean condition and can be left on the table in the backyard of the hall, with donors also able to phone the committee on 0417 512 240 to organise collection.
