GEELONG Regional Libraries Corporation has launched a new service enabling people to keep borrowing items while their branches are closed.

The click and deliver program will allow GRLC members in Golden Plains as well as Greater Geelong, Borough of Queenscliffe, and Surf Coast Shire to have hard copies of books, CDs, and DVDs delivered to their house in a safe and contactless manner.

GRLC chief executive officer Patti Manolis said the service would give people more flexibility with their reading options while in lockdown.

“During library closures due to COVID-19 lockdown earlier in the year, we saw a huge increase in the rates of people accessing our eCollections, such as eBooks and eAudiobooks,” she said.

“We will continue to provide a great array of digital services, programs and collections. However, we are aware that many in the community cannot access eCollections, and this can be for a number of reasons.

“The click and deliver service will provide our members with a greater range of reading materials, in the format of their choice, during lockdown.”

GRLC members will be able to borrow up to 20 items per month while using the service.

The GRLC is also offering a free postal delivery service of library items for six months to vulnerable library members who meet certain eligibility criteria.
