Bra cup creativity for cancer

ONE of your bras could help to support those experiencing the most common cancer among Australian women.

This year, around 19,300 ladies will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and October is its awareness month.

With figures projecting 3000 women will die from the disease in 2019, the George Hotel is running a creative fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation called Bras for Boobies.

Throughout October, Ballarat is encouraged to decorate a bra, and for $10 they can show it in the George’s new Atrium art gallery space.

With all proceeds going directly to the foundation, prizes will be given to the three most artistic bras up in the gallery this month.

Events and Marketing Manager, Renee Radulovic was inspired to do something different when she saw Breast Cancer Awareness Month was approaching. Many of her friends have been affected by the disease.

“Bras for Boobies is something everyone can have a bit of fun with,” she said. “Seeing the bras come in is very inspiring, it’s great to see everyone come up with unique designs and to have the community involved.”

On Saturday, 26 October at 3pm in The Lane, just over 100 guests will enjoy the official Bras for Boobies afternoon.

Featuring a runway showcase of local businesses, the $40 event includes a drink on arrival, nibbles, live music and auctions, a gift bag, stall holders, beauty stations and special guests.

The George encourages businesses to donate items for auction, and gifts and vouchers for goodie bags. They are looking for the help of hairdressers, makeup artists and clothing stores for the runway.

All businesses involved will feature in the program, will be advertised on the Facebook event, and promoted on social media as the afternoon approaches.
