WORK is underway to repair Inverleigh’s Federation Pedestrian Bridge which was damaged in flooding in 2022.
“Federation Bridge is an important pedestrian connection between the north and south of Inverleigh,” said a Golden Plains Shire spokesperson.
“To ensure ongoing public safety and facilitate necessary repairs, more permanent barriers have recently been installed to restrict motorbike, horse, and vehicle access to the bridge.”
The plans will soon be submitted to the relevant authority for approval and repair works are estimated to begin in April and conclude in June.
Replacement works will include replacing decking with new timber, upgrading suspension cables, stabilising the northern bank with new beaching, new handrails, corrosion protection for the cables and cable stay anchors, and refixing pier column caps, and are expected to cost $160,000.
“The repair works will significantly improve the Federation Pedestrian Bridge and make it safe to use,” said the spokesperson.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work to restore the bridge and we’ll continue to provide updates as the project progresses.”
