MAKE a local impact this National Tree Day by enhancing the Bruces Creek Reserve environment.

A tree-planting morning will take place just by Rosemond Way, Bannockburn on Sunday, 31 July from 10am to 12pm.

Golden Plains Shire natural resources officer Dale Smithyman said the event is a chance to unite people across the community, for neighbours to meet, and to be active outdoors, all while boosting the beauty and biodiversity of the corridor.

“It will be an opportunity for the community to learn more about the process and importance of revegetation, while enjoying some time outdoors. It’s a great way to spend a Sunday morning,” he said.

“We’ll be planting 600 trees and shrubs to create habitat for our native fauna and beautify Bruces Creek.

“We’re looking forward to working alongside the community to make a positive impact that we’ll be able to reap the benefits of for years to come.”

Participants will be able to plant trees that they can watch grow for many years to come.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said participating in National Tree Day is a perfect family weekend activity.

“I encourage all Golden Plains residents to come along and plant a tree that they’ll be able to watch grow into the future,” he said.

“Over 26 million trees have been planted by Australian volunteers since 1996 as part of the program and we are excited to add to this with the contribution of 600 trees and shrubs to be planted at Bruces Creek Reserve.

“Planting trees is not only good for the environment but they provide habitat, food and even homes for native wildlife. These trees will make the Golden Plains community a better place to live and enjoy both now and into the future.”
