BUNINYONG Primary School students will travel to Melbourne to perform their own compositions on Monday, 26 November.

Buninyong Maestros is a free lunchtime concert at Melbourne’s iconic MPavilion, featuring 17 students from Buninyong Primary School performing their original compositions, accompanied by chamber ensemble the New Palm Court Orchestra.
Buninyong Maestros is a unique collaboration between the New Palm Court Orchestra and regional Victoria’s Buninyong Primary School.

The concert is the culmination of NPCO artistic director Gemma Turvey’s extensive improvisation and composition program Maestro & Me with Buninyong Primary School, where she coaches students in creating and discovering their own music with inspiring results.

Now approaching its third consecutive year, the Maestro & Me program has already significantly contributed to an increase in general classroom participation, student self-confidence and self-esteem and basic school attendance rates for participating students.

Gemma Turvey says it is with such pride that NPCO shares the stage with these brave, creative and very inspiring young musicians.

“There is so much beautiful music in their young hearts and minds,” says Ms Turvey.

“The more time I spend with these students, the more I am convinced of the importance of encouraging composition and improvisation at this pivotal age.”

This will be the students’ debut performance in Melbourne. Audiences to Buninyong Maestros can expect pieces about pet dogs, dragons, bugs, the ocean, the seasons and ‘just being me’.

Come and support these brave young musicians-in-the-making and be inspired yourself as you hear their delightful songs come to life at MPavilion, supported by Buninyong & District Community Bank.
