BANNOCKBURN and District Chamber of Commerce will host a networking night at Lethbridge Lake on Wednesday 26 February.

Although a chance for business people in the area to mix, mingle and connect, it’s not strictly a business event.

Family members will be welcome, and picnicking and fishing will be encouraged.

Running from 5.30pm, the free event will also include a barbecue dinner, and attendees are invited to bring along picnic rugs and chairs.

Gary Cain Cabinets’ Michelle Cain, the chamber’s treasurer, said it will be a relaxed way to meet other people in business within Golden Plains.

The group and its networking events have helped her family business boost its local presence.

The chamber committee encourages attendees to bring along their fishing rods and cast a line at twilight on the bridge or the bank.

“It’s really put us on the map,” she said.

“People like to deal with local business people they know.”

The organisation is rebranding to the Golden Plains Chamber of Commerce and the committee is aiming to host events at more locations across the shire to be more accessible, and to attract new members.

“We need to move things around within the shire for the events, so we’ll be doing more of these in different places, and some still in the pub,” Bannockburn and District Chamber of Commerce president Peter Nunn said.

“We’re also aiming to change our membership criteria to be more open to anyone that wants to be a member; we’re broadening our horizons.”

RSVP by 24 February by registering for free tickets on the Eventbrite website.
