Cash support for keeping active
STATE Government funding has been secured for two recreation projects in Golden Plains Shire.
Just under $464,000 will come from Local Sports Infrastructure Fund for upgrades at Rokewood Recreation Reserve’s netball pavilion and tennis courts, as well as the Golden Plains Shire Tracks and Trails Strategy project.
The funding was announced by Minister for Community Sport, Ros Spence last month, and Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said it’s great to see the projects become a reality.
“Council welcomes the exciting news that the Rokewood Recreation Reserve netball and tennis court upgrade and Golden Plains Shire Tracks and Trails Strategy projects will be delivered,” he said.
“The upgrade of the netball and tennis courts at Rokewood Recreation Reserve will provide a safer, more comfortable facility to support female participation.
“We are pleased funding has been secured for the development of the Golden Plains Shire Tracks and Trails Strategy project, which will guide council’s future advocacy and investment in a trail network and help to increase active transport in Golden Plains.”
Rokewood Recreation Reserve’s upgrades will receive $433,666 on top of the Shire’s $216,334 contribution.
The project will include the redevelopment of two lit netball and tennis courts, new fencing, sheltered benches, and an extension of the current storage shelter.
Funding for the rec reserve adds to the recently announced $3.96 million Rokewood Community Hub project, which includes upgraded facilities and a main pavilion.
The remaining $30,000 will help fund the Shire’s strategy that aims to improve current track and trails throughout the municipality, as well as identify new sites.
At an overall cost of $60,000, the funding adds to Golden Plains Shire’s input of $30,000.
