You can help make nature better

IF you’re keen to be a proactive protector and enhancer of the Shire’s natural environment, a new community engagement network may pique your interest.

The Corangamite Catchment Management Authority are seeking a group of local people from diverse backgrounds and experiences to help drive their approach to the region’s natural resource management.

The network will meet twice each year, and explore issues surrounding waterways, floodplains, managing estuaries, the health of rivers, threatened plants and wildlife, research, and monitoring.

Corangamite CMA CEO John Riddiford said people who enjoy regular visits to their local green spaces, or those who are involved in or passionate about environmental conservation, farming, fishing, or forestry would be appropriate network members.

“Our key role is to improve the health of our natural resources and sustainable productivity of the Corangamite region. We can only achieve this by working with the community,” he said.

“You might run a business that uses natural resources or be employed by one. You might be a farmer or like to relax by bushwalking or bird watching, or be part of an outdoor club.

“All of these provide a unique insight into our natural resources.”

All selected participants would also be paid for their contribution to the network, which will be in place for the next three years.
