LOCALS who are passionate about keeping their community safe in emergencies are being encouraged to register their interest in joining the Golden Plains Shire Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee.

The committee is responsible for developing and maintaining a plan that addresses emergencies within the Golden Plains shire area, and it’s currently seeking Expressions of Interest from community members to join up in a voluntary capacity.

It’s made up of representatives from the CFA, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, Fire Rescue Victoria, Emergency Recovery Victoria, VIC SES, Victorian Council of Churches Emergencies Ministry, Red Cross, St John Ambulance, and Golden Plains Shire Council.

Locals who deeply care about their community and want to be involved in the development and implementation of strategies to ensure safety during emergency events are being encouraged to apply.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey is among those urging interested residents to indicate their interest in joining the committee.

“The committee is on the lookout for someone who has an understanding of the Victorian Emergency Management arrangements and has strong community links,” Cr Sharkey said.

“You’ll work with the rest of the committee to identify, analyse and evaluate emergency related links, discuss and develop mitigations, prepare response and recovery plans and participate in exercises.”

The committee meets twice per year, generally in May and October, at the Golden Plains Civic Centre in Bannockburn.

Expressions of Interest are now being received up to Tuesday 3 March and can be completed online through the Golden Plains Shire’s website, with hard copy EOI forms also available at the council’s customer hubs in Bannockburn and Smythesdale.
