PARENTS and babies will hit the green together next Thursday, 10 October from 10.30am to 12pm at Bannockburn Bowls Club.

As part of Bowls Victoria’s Bowling with Babies program, new and expecting parents will unite for a bit of fitness and friendship, that they can enjoy with their small children.

Bowls Victoria’s Participation Manager, Neil Gray said the program has been running for two years, with over 1000 parents taking part across Victoria.

“We want to make bowls clubs a hub of the community and offer a low impact sport to get mums physically active again after giving birth, and provide some social wellbeing for them with a support group,” he said.

Utilising the bowling club during a quiet period, Mr Gray said the sessions are an alternative to coffee mornings.

“It’s somewhere they can go where the children can be noisy and no one will bat an eyelid at them.

“There’s plenty of room, they can park the prams up at the edge of the green, and we give the club all the equipment that they need like play pens and change tables,” he said.

Fifty clubs across Victoria have facilitated the program before, and Bannockburn’s will run for six weeks. Each session costs $5 and is payable on the day.
