A BARBECUE in the CBD on International Women’s Day, 8 March, will celebrate women and address gender disparity.

The #balanceforbetter themed event is a call to action regarding acceleration of gender equality, but also an opportunity for the city to simply come together.

Attendees will listen to special guest speakers and music from the Sweet Mona’s Choir, while they buy and enjoy sausages and drinks.

Hosted by the City of Ballarat, the barbecue will take place opposite the Town Hall, at Queen Victoria Square from 12pm to 2pm.

City of Ballarat mayor, Cr Samantha McIntosh said the #balanceforbetter focus could help in creating and fostering a more balanced world.

“The day is about recognising how far we’ve come and how much we still can achieve,” she said.

“Here in Ballarat we have so many great examples of women who have achieved so much.

We need to encourage more women to take on leadership roles in all aspects of community life; in business, in politics and in the professions.”
