Classic style to promote contemporary businesses

BALLARAT and South Korea have something in common.

They’re two great inspirations for marketer and web designer, Emma Hall.

Having grown up locally in a heritage terrace home on Lydiard Street and spending eight years teaching and living in South Korea with her husband and teenage son, Ms Hall gained an appreciation for the style of times gone by, and the clean nature of minimalism.

“Korea has really made me appreciate more simple lines. I do really like old style as well, so when I design websites, I like to use a very simple design, but put in a little vintage, classic, even retro style, to create something with personality,” she said.

“People think of retro as very full on, but that’s not the real retro. Retro is stylish and classic.”

Those ideas have helped shape Ms Hall’s new business, Retro Events & Marketing. Her focus is to share local and national brands with consumers through stylish simple websites, advertising material, videos, and events with a focus on quality, style and old-fashioned values and service.

A real approach to storytelling comes from Ms Hall’s background in the visual and performing arts, and from her husband’s trade.

“I enjoyed that side of communicating a message through storytelling. It’s definitely a big part of my strategy,” she said. “My husband is a videographer, so it’s a good team. Trying to tell your business story through storytelling, how your business is unique, how your story can help other people relate to you and draw them to be a customer is what I do.”

Alongside her artistic skills as a designer and website builder, Ms Hall offers start-up packages, marketing coaching, and social media training for individuals or groups in business. She can tailor her advice and expertise to fill in any business’ knowledge gaps in promoting themselves.

“It makes you feel proud that you’ve helped someone build their business. It’s a fun process,” Ms Hall said.
