THE region’s future AFLW players are being invited to attend a clinic at Smythesdale.

The event, hosted by the Woady Warriors, is for girls who want to develop their football skills with no previous experience required.

The clinic is run by The Footy Factory, an organisation which aims to give girls the opportunity to play football, and AFLW players Tahla Gillard, Sinéad Goldrick, Alyssa Bannan and Casey Sherriff will be in attendance.

“It’s tailored around girls being coached by girls and learning from some of the AFLW players to help build their passion for the game,” said Woady Warriors vice-president Brodie Doolan.

“They can have some one-on-one time and hopefully grow the love of the game.”

Doolan hopes the girls who take part can learn what opportunities are available to them.

“Hopefully participants take into the future that they have the communities backing and learn that there is more than the local level,” he said.

“There is that pathway available to get into the next levels.”

While the Woady Warriors does not currently have a girls’ side, Doolan said this is something they are hoping to achieve in the future.

“We want to promote the love of girls’ football within our local community,” he said.

“We’d love in the coming years to have a girls’ side.”

The clinic will be held on Saturday 23 March from 10am until 2pm at Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve.

Tickets to the event cost $69 and include lunch and snacks and can be purchased on the Footy Factory website.
