Club gallops into first rally for the year
MEMBERS of Leighdale Pony Club are kicking off the new year with their Summer Fun Rally early next month.
The event is set to take place from 9am until 1pm on Sunday, 5 February at the Leighdale Equestrian Centre at Teesdale.
President, Amy Hart, said the event will be a fun, casual way to ring in 2023.
“It’s our first rally for the year, and we’re only a small pony club so we’re always looking for new members around this time,” she said.
“It’s going to be a fun, relaxed day of pony club with some riding and polocrosse before finishing off with a bit of theory.”
The day will feature a polocrosse demonstration hosted by Corio Polocrosse Club members Damian Keet and Glen Burns.
A presentation on horse dentistry led by veterinarian Kate Richards will round out the event.
Leighdale Pony Club as about 15 members, and newcomers are able to participate in the event via a $65 come and try fee.
Ms Hart said the event is a great way for those interested in horse riding to try their feet in the stirrups.
“It’s a good one for kids to start with just one rally to see how it all goes and to check out what we do,” she said.
“It’s a quieter day than normal so there’s no better time to start with this if you were thinking about joining and weren’t 100 per cent certain.”
Non-members can contact Ms Hart on 0418 261 202 or district commissioner Rachael Black on 0439 324 634, or visit the Pony Club Australia website to apply for a come-and-try fee.
