BALLARAT three-piece blues rockers, Cold Feet recently won Bannockburn’s Battle of the Bands, taking home $1500.

The band’s guitarist and vocalist, Kyle Shawcross, organist and backup vocalist, KP Macak, and drummer Kayne Smith performed a 20-minute set during the competition at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre.

The Mount Clear College students are in Years 11 and 12, and have been playing music together for a year. Smith said the build up to the battle had been big knowing the potential prize money.

“The most that we’ve ever been paid for a gig was about $10, so $1500 was a huge jump from that.

“We were really, really nervous beforehand. We were all freaking out at the gig, but once we got up there, we all switched on and understood what we had to do,” he said.

“According to all our friends and family, it’s probably one of the best sets we’ve ever done.”

The competition was so tough, Cold Feet were shocked to hear they’d won.

“I jumped out of my seat and started hugging them,” Smith said.

The group has recently decided to promote themselves more, setting up social media accounts and spreading the word.

“Our next thing is to get as many gigs and as much exposure as we can, so we can get our name out there and people want us for gigs,” Smith said.

“We also decided that we’re going to get our money together and buy a keyboard for one of the band members.”
