Accord Property lodged a planning permit application with the Golden Plains Shire earlier this year. The application has been open for comment since the end of last month.
Accord plans to build a KFC, a McDonald’s and a 7-Eleven service station on 2.07 hectares of vacant land at 201 Geelong Road, between the existing Ampol Foodary service station and the Bannockburn Veterinary Clinic.
The nominated value of the project is $4.5 million. Accord said in the application that the development would create jobs for the township.
The McDonald’s restaurant would have 50 seats, the KFC 40, and there would be 69 car parking spaces provided.
“Formal public notice of the planning application relating to 201 Geelong Road, Bannockburn concludes on 14 July,” a Shire spokesperson said.
“After the public notice concludes, Council officers will review all submissions and determine if any further information is required prior to making a decision.”
It is not known how many submissions have been lodged.
Golden Plains Chamber of Commerce president Peter Nunn said the chamber had not discussed the proposal and did not have a formal position on it.
But Mr Nunn said he was aware that community opinions on the development were mixed.
“I don’t know that there’s a strong movement on it one way or the other,” he said.
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said the proposed development was another indicator that Bannockburn is growing.
“It’s good to see investment and new businesses coming in that will offer jobs and opportunities,” Cr Sharkey said.
“But it’s going through that process where residents may have issues with it in terms of its planning application.”
