IN response to growing concerns about the impacts of COVID-19 on business and especially the mental health of workers and owners, Commerce Ballarat is facilitating two free online forums.

Titled Facing Adversity: Building resilience when times are tough, and set for 9.30am on Thursday, 19 March for 45 minutes, the first webinar will feature psychologist and small business owner Ellen Jackson.

Ms Jackson is a workplace and coaching psychologist, writer, speaker and consultant. Her area of expertise is helping workplaces understand human behaviour and uses scientific research to inform her approach.

Facing Adversity: Building resilience when times are tough will cover issues like: how the brain responds to uncertainty and drives unhelpful behaviour, what we can control and what we can’t – and why focusing on the wrong thing is more trouble than it’s worth, and five free, simple activities for maintaining calm, building emotional resilience and keeping us in the best shape to help others.

On Monday, 23 March at 11am Ms Jackson will host a second webinar titled Facing Adversity: Helping Your Team during Uncertainty and Change.

That event will focus on: why psychological hope fuels motivation and creativity and tempers against despair – and what you can do to create it for your people, how social connectedness protects us from anxiety and reduces the stress and how to help your people stay connected and contributing even if they are physically distant, and the key elements of a constructive conversation – tips for tough discussions.

Both events are free.
