Community day at the church
EVERYONE is invited to family day hosted by members of the Leigh Presbyterian Church.
The Spring Festival will take place at the Teesdale Presbyterian Church on Saturday, 29 October.
Pastor, Reverend Surendra Wesley, said the event will be full of fun and entertainment for the broader community.
“We’re taking an initiative to… do something for the community,” he said. “We’ll have face-painting, bouncy castles, games for the kids and adults, and a sausage sizzle.
“It’s about trying to involve the community and getting to know people a bit better.
“We have three churches combined between the Shelford, Teesdale and Inverleigh churches, and so this is a combined program for these communities and anybody else who wants to come along.”
The organising committee is made up of 13 people from the three congregations.
The upcoming event will be the church’s second community festival following their inaugural offering at Inverleigh in September last year.
About 70 people attended last year’s event and Mr Wesley said their aim is to make it a regular occurrence.
“Our hope and plan is that we can continue to do this sort of thing where community members can come together and build relationships,” he said.
“Anybody can come, of course, but this is focused especially on Teesdale, Inverleigh and Shelford, all these smaller communities.
“It’s designed for these close-knit communities and it’s good to have people knowing each other and to be able to work together.”
Entry to The Spring Festival is by gold coin donation, and it will run from 11am to 1pm.
