BANNOCKBURN YMCA is asking for local businesses to book a stall at their new community market set to launch on Sunday, 22 May.

The event will take place within the Bannockburn Recreational Centre, and all proceeds will go towards the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

Presented in collaboration with Bakers Delight Lara, Bannockburn’s YMCA centre coordinator Jessica Claridge said the market provides the perfect opportunity to reconnect the community.

“We’re putting on this event because we want to see the community get involved with each other again,” she said.

“We want to help our local businesses as much as they’re helping us by signing up for it.

“And it’s also just a great cause to get behind, unfortunately there’s always people out in the community that have been affected by breast cancer.”

The market will run annually, which Ms Claridge said will give the community something to look forward to each year while also leaving space for the regular monthly markets.

Over 10 businesses have signed up for the event, and each participating owner will be allocated a three-square-metre stall on a first-in-best-dressed basis.

Ms Claridge said that after several weeks of preparation, the community appears ready to welcome the market as a regular annual event.

“The response has been really good so far. After these past two years of COVID, it looks like everyone’s happy to get out and bring the community back together,” she said.

A raffle will also be running throughout the day which participating businesses can offer prizes for, and those unable to commit to the day will still be able to donate to the cause.

Applications for stalls will close on Saturday, 30 April. For more info, or to book, email, call or visit The Y at Bannockburn at 132 Milton Street, on 5281 2316 or via [email protected].
