Community to connect for end of year cheer
WITH the holidays almost here, everyone is invited to see the year out as part of the Shelford Progress Association’s annual community get-together.
Held this year at the town’s community garden, Shelford Progress Association secretary and treasurer Glenn Jeffery said it’ll be a fun relaxing evening of connecting.
“It’s a bit of a casual end-of-year Christmas type of get-together,” he said. “It’ll be a barbecue and salads event and we ask people to bring Christmas stuff like biscuits and puddings.
“For me, it’s a great catchup with people I may not have seen or have reason to run into throughout the year.”
The event has been running for more than a decade, with this year’s get-together catering for about 30 people.
With the community garden revamped earlier this year, Mr Jeffery said the chosen location is also an ideal way to promote the overhauled space.
“Just recently a couple of people have been really active there and it’s looking really nice. They’ve kitted it out with some tables, chairs, and a barbecue,” he said.
“The active gardening people are co-hosting, and we all want to promote that it’s a space anyone can use whether for an event like this or to just use for yourself.
“We used to hold this at our halls but more recently at the barbecue area near the cricket club.
“We did have it at the community garden five years ago when it opened, as a bit of a showcase so it’s good to get back out there again.”
The Shelford community get-together will take place from 5pm on Sunday 10 December.
