Cosmic creations on offer
BLAST into space at Bannockburn Library next month with a session about the cosmic realm.
The session, held on Tuesday 2 July from 10.30am, will look at space exploration and children will have the chance to design their own rocket.
Geelong Regional Libraries CEO Vanessa Schernickau said the event is a great way to spark children’s interest in space.
“We encourage preschoolers and their families to pop into Bannockburn Library for a special space themed story time, and the chance to learn about space exploration and even design your own rocket,” she said.
“After the sessions, families are encouraged to explore our collection, with resources to spark and encourage children’s interests whatever they may be, from space to sports, cooking to craft and so much more.”
The session, recommended for preschool children, is one of many being held at Bannockburn library across the school holidays.
Other activities include postcard designing, puppet making and creating eco-friendly paper.
“We put our hearts and minds into each school holiday program; they’re a great chance to make new friends, develop literacy in surprising ways, and perhaps even learn how to upcycle clothes and make your own paper and recipe books,” said Ms Schernickau.
“Everyone is welcome at the library; to game, hang out with mates, watch a movie and more.
“Our libraries are safe and inclusive spaces, and our school holiday programs not only foster in children a lifelong love of reading, but also offer programs that promote digital literacy—from learning how to use green screen technology to coding and robotics.”
